In the wake of the tragic killing of innocent lives in Florida, many people have risen up in righteous anger at the thought of such a tragedy. And others have decided to use this horrific crime as a means to their stated goals. ie to rid this country of its 2nd Amendment rights. And to advance their political ambitions. It is disgusting and sad that the focus of this tragedy is not on the acts of the killer nor the failures of the authorities to have possibly prevented this from happening or at the very least, lessened the body count by acting upon arrival on the scene. Instead, you have the media and politicians saying "this is just another reason why Americans should not have guns!" For the deranged actions of a few(as terrible as the loss of life is, regardless of body count) they would want to dismantle our Constitution to pacify their misplaced ambitions. They would rather place blame on the NRA than on the trigger puller. Can anyone sight for me one instance where in all its history that the NRA has endorsed the killing of one single human being? Can anyone even find one killer in the last 50 years who was a member of the NRA? Let me help you here. The answer is NO! None of the sick killers have been NRA members. So why are they to blame? Only because it provides fodder for activists who want to take away your right to keep and bear arms. I hear the outcry from ignorant followers of biased media outlets saying that "No one should be able to buy an automatic weapon" Well, short of the very few who are licensed to own an automatic weapon. It is already law that automatic weapons cannot be bought and sold to our citizenry. And to show the ignorance of most including the media, anytime and AR15 type weapon is used they equate this to an automatic weapon. AR15's and their like are simply semiautomatic guns. No different in operation than your everyday semiautomatic pistol that you see sold at your local sporting goods store. To most uninformed media followers they think AR stands for "Assault Rifle" let me assure you it does not. Look up for yourself where the AR15 gets its name. But lets ignore the fact because the goal is to rid all Americans of their right to the 2nd Ammendment. The argument is always, "get rid of guns" Well, let's look at our response to a few tragic events in recent history. The embassy bombing in Lebanon. We built barricades around our embassies to not allow vehicle close range. We did not close all our embassies. The ramming/bombing of the USS Cole. We reassessed our protocol on how we port ships. We did not suspend all ship building. The infamous "shoe bomber" we now must take off our shoes before boarding a plane. We did not pass a law making it illegal to wear shoes while flying. 911 tragedy, we increased security and awareness at point of travel ie airports and in the planes. We did not ban all terrorist looking men from flying. But instead of responding to gun shootings the same way we have most other tragedies. That is to look at the crime/incedent itself and find a way to prevent it from happening again. Some advocate getting rid of all guns. That would equate to banning all airline flights after 911, closing all embassies after Lebanon bombing, Dismantling the Navy because of the USS Cole bombing, Closing down all Army bases after Fort Hood. That is, if you were to use the same argument as those against gun ownership. Each and every loss of life is tragic. Regardless of it being in a mass killing, a random driveby, a one off mistaken identity, or however one meets his end. But somehow it is only when their is a mass shooting that many rise up. Forget that in Chicago and Los Angeles alone each year more people die or are maimed by illegal gun owners/criminals than all those mass shooting combined over the last 50 years. To blame anyone but the killer for this horrific crime would be like blaming the road or car you're driving for the accident you were in when you ran the redlight.
